Engine 1 is the first piece of apparatus to respond to any call except motor vehicle accidents. Engine 1 is the newest of the fleet and is equipped to effectively handles fires and other emergencies in both the downtown districts as well as the rural area of town.

A larger amount of water is carried on engine 1 than any other piece. This combined with effective fire attack has prevented several fires from spreading, and containing the damage to a smaller area of the structure.

The unit also carries a limited amount of extrication tools including the Holmatro "Combi Tool," a combination of the hydraulic spreaders and cutters. This tool may be used for backup or even primary vehicle extrication.
