The St. Johnsbury Fire Department regrets to announce the passing of Captain Howard K. Gieselman (retired). A 21 year veteran of the St. Johnsbury Fire Department. Capt. Gieselman died Monday November 10, 2003 at the age of 74.

Howard served his country for over twenty years retiring as Master Seargent in the US Air Force in 1969. He and his family then moved to St. Johnsbury where he began a twenty-one year career with the St. Johnsbury Fire Department retiring as Captain.

An active and strong supporter of the South Congregational Church, Howard held many offices there throughout the past thirty-four years. He was a charter member of the St. Johnsbury Fire Fighters Association IAFF Local 2934; Mount Mansfield Masonic Lodge F & AM in Jerico; Air Force Sergeants Assoc.; Conductor for the St. Johnsbury and Lamoile County Railroad Club; and was St. Johnsbury's Citizen of the year in 1989.
