St. Johnsbury Fire Department Helps out Dr. Zimmerman

St. Johnsbury Fire helped out Dr. Roger Zimmerman yesterday afternoon/night with allowing the fundraising runner to spend the night with us as he makes his run from Maine to UVM in Burlington. He is raising funds for the UVM scholarship fund after graduating over fifty years ago.

Roger arrived at the fire station around 1PM. He was provide with a place to shower and sleep for the night. He toured around St. Johnsbury for the afternoon and was treated to supper by the members of C shift who made homemade pizza. Unfortunately his sleep was interrupted several times during the night as C shift had multiple calls during the night. Either way we were happy to have him visit us and enjoyed meeting him and learning of his adventure.
On September 11, 2011 members of SJFD, members of the community, and other area agencies met at St. Johnsbury Fire Deparment to hold a memorial service of 9/11/01 to honor all the fallen. To view more photos of the service please click here.

On May 29th St. Johnsbury Fire was dispatched to a 2nd alarm building fire in Danville. The engine company consisting of Captain Reed, FF Gilding, Captain Rivers, FF Sylvia, and FF Emery as well as other off duty career and call firefighters responded and arrived on the scene first to find a private dwelling with heavy fire in the roof on the rear of the structure. The members stretched a 2.5" line and were able to cut the fire off at the addition before it extended into the front portion of the house. The fire heavily damaged the rear of the building, the front had no fire damage. During the response FF Gilding strategically maneuvered the appartus around washed out areas of the road narrowly making it by. The crews fought the fire during extremely heavy downpours and frequent lightning which continued to strike nearby, which was the cause of the fire.

Main Street - Structure Fire - All Hands Operating

Shortly before 1:00am on Wednesday January 19th Fire Alarm received multiple calls reporting a structure fire in the Pearl Street/Federal Street area. Engine 1 arrived with Assistant Chief Marc LaRose, FF Mike Pelow, and FF Ryan Pelow to find a detached garage fully involved with exposure to the rear of the house. Engine 1 crew quickly stretched a line to extinguish the outside of the house that was burning, and protected it while a search was made from the inside. As additional crews arrived they were able to knock down the garage fire and keep it from spreading into the house.
