Motor Vehicle Accident w/Entrapment

On duty firefighters responded on a telephone alarm for a motor vehicle accident with one victim trapped. The Rescue company upgraded the call to a first alarm and requested an additional Engine company to the scene. On arrival of the Rescue company, they found one person outside of the car, and a second trapped in the passenger seat. The Rescue company used the hydraulic tools and started to extricated the victim from the car. The Engine company stretched an 1-3/4" handline because of a dripping gas line. Once the patient was extricated from the vehicle, he was transported to NVRH. He then was transported to DHMC by DHART.

Passenger Rail Car Fire

On duty firefighters responded on a telephone alarm for a train fire on the tracks in the downtown district. On arrival of the first due Engine company they had a passenger rail car with heavy smoke showing with flames visible. Rescue 2 was staffed due to a back to back call requiring coverage, and were ordered to lay a 5" supply line. Two lines were stretched, the Engine company made the initial attack from the D side of the train, and the Rescue company made an fire attack on the B side. The fire was confined to a seating area on the B side which sustained heavy damage. The fire was ruled to be suspicious.

May 26, 2010 Mutual Aid Barn Fire
Coles Pond Road Walden

On duty firefighters responded to Danville for station coverage, and was quickly redirected to responded in Walden for a barn fire. The engine company arrived on scene and assisted in fire suppresion and overhaul operations. The engine company was on scene for over 4 hours, and atleast 160 cows died in the fire. A cover company from St. Johnsbury responded to Danville for station coverage.

April 20, 2010 Working Stucture Fire
Brunell Street
On duty firefighters responded on a 911 call reporting a fire in the kitchen. A follow up call reported heavy fire in the kitchen and that a person had gone back in the building. The first engine company arrived on scene and reported moderate smoke showing with fire visible in the windows of a single story residental home. Chief Ruggles, the officer of the engine company transmitted the working fire. The engine company, consisting of Chief Ruggles and Firefighter Angell, stretched one 1-3/4" line through the front door and encountered heavy fire in the kitchen. They were able to quickly knock down the fire with one line. Additional companies checked for extension in the walls and attic of the home. No fire was allowed beyond the room of origin. One occupant was transported to the hospital with smoke inhalation. A second occupant was later transported by POV with an irriated respiratory system.

April 15, 2010 Working Structure Fire

On April 15, 2010 at 0011, Fire Alarm transmitted the 1st alarm for a porch on fire at an apartment building on Maple Street. Assistant Chief LaRose and Firefighter Montminy arrived within two minutes and found heavy fire on the front porch. They quickly stretched an 1 3/4" line and knocked the fire down while members of the St. Johnsbury Police Department knocked on doors to evacuate the building. Tower 4 crew overhauled the porch as Engine 3 and Rescue 2 crews worked on the porch roof. Engine1 crew checked for extension on the second floor. All occupants were evacuated with one minor burn injury.
